A State of Suspension

Myanmar has suspended its tottering democracy for the last four years. The state of emergency in the military-ruled state has been extended for at least six months. Normal rights have been abrogated in a state that should have done better with its future prospects. A nation that should have respected human rights has been usually indicted of abrogating them. The military junta that rules Myanmar shouldn’t play with democratic sentiments, and reinstate their political mission that wanted to uphold democracy, and the sentiments associated with it.

The mission to make Myanmar a democracy should not be considered futile, and all caution must be exercised on the part of military junta to restore democracy and suspend the state of emergency that have tarnished their political purpose internationally. Myanmar should be more circumspect, and not give in to the state of emergency for more than six months. All political prisoners must be released thereafter, and democratic means must be adopted in order to fulfil the aims of politics that they have set for themselves.

Myanmar has been accused of violating human rights. The allegations should be taken with all seriousness and the lives lost and damages caused must be emphasized.  The compensation measures and justice must not be ignored and violations of human rights should not be condoned by the international community. Human lives can’t be taken with lightness that the military junta wants the international community to do so. The violations must be recompensed and democratic means must be used in order to protect the rights of the citizens. The military junta should give opportunities to politics, and allow it to work as it has been done in other nations.

Politics should not be ignored by the military junta, and the state of repression that they are embroiled in must be considered politically aloof. The military has always been at loggerheads with politics, Myanmar is similar. Myanmar’s military junta must respect the human rights that political prisoners have and give them more opportunities than they have been given thus far. The establishment of democracy should not be considered an unachievable political aim for a nation that had already initiated the process of establishing it. Democracy is best form of government, and Myanmar must rein in the excesses that they are prone to cause. The lives that have been lost due to irresponsible politics can’t be ignored any longer. Politics must be allowed to work, and state of emergency must be uplifted as listed. Six months is not a long-time in politics. Democracy can only wait now.
