Cyclone Catastrophe in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka has been hit by a cyclone. An environmental catastrophe that has made over a million of Sri Lankans homeless and over 410 of its citizens killed. An environmental disaster in the form of cyclone cannot be made avoidable, although rescue efforts and disaster management should be made a primary head-turner in the government circles. Sri Lanka must conclude that better preparedness is the urgent need that the island has. Environmental disasters must be considered a way to come to terms with the climate catastrophe. Environmental problems must be dealt with higher regard for the value that the human lives have. Sri Lanka must give its citizens a safe nation to live in. Most citizens are astounded by the degree of the catastrophe that the island has suffered. The needless loss of lives must be accounted for, and all caution must be exercised in order to prevent further loss.
Environment has been changing in many parts of the world, leading to frequent natural calamities. Cyclone for all its justification of a being a natural tyrant, should be acknowledged as an environmental disaster. The international community must assist Sri Lanka, and give it all conditions of advantage that it must have during the present crisis. Environmental disasters and future calamities cannot be rightly estimated, but the government has the obligation to safeguard the lives of its citizens. Sri Lanka bring a lone island in the Indian Ocean must prepare itself with better disaster management system, and equip its personnel with state-of-the-art rescue equipment. More investments must be made in aforementioned areas and given the right intent future calamities can be made less painful. India, as a neighbour must give a helping hand to the cyclone stricken nation that has suffered immensely in the last years. Future environmental disasters can be made bearable, if Sri Lanka lays a solid foundation to manage disasters.
