Taiwan’s New Steps
Taiwan has been given the political attention that it deserves. The United States has passed a new legislation that renews its ties with Taiwan. Taiwan stands for human rights, the rule of law and democracy in the east. The newly reaffirmed ties would make the United States an essential partner that Taiwan needs, and has had for considerable period. Taiwan has been under threat from China. The geopolitical skirmishes have not served any purpose, and had laid a ground for distrust in the region. China must be more circumspect and bring about a distinction between states that are violent and which are not. Taiwan as a nation has extolled the values of peace, and democracy and should be considered a safe haven for the its larger neighbour. China must deal with Taiwan keeping the international law in its prolific political mind, and give it the benefit that all free-market economies deserve in the twenty-first century.
Taiwan should be treated with respect in the east, and its security must be considered sacrosanct. Geopolitical games do not serve much ends as they disturb market sentiments and make investors anxious. China must behave in accordance with international law and should understand the nature of peace and free-market. Desperate threats and military pomposity does not behoove a nation that has proven itself to be the second largest economy in just under four decades. China must understand that peace in the region is a political condition that must be satisfied. The United States, being one of the most important trading partners, has reaffirmed its trust for Taiwan. The balancing act that only the United States is capable of, has made it another important factor of stability in the region. Commerce and security should be encouraged between nations in the east, rather than military risks. Tomfoolery that some nations are capable of, using the military, must be avoided by China, and it must allow Taiwan to live and work in peace.
