With Every Passing Day
The European powers have spoken loud and clear. They will not be sending warships to aid the Trump administration. The US administration has been seeking help from its allies to help open the Strait of Hormuz. But it has not been placated so far. The Strait of Hormuz needs to be reopened as it shall affect the shipping industry for the worse. The shipping industry and especially oil supply to Europe must be sustained, and hence the American plea to its allies. The European nations have decided not to intervene in the ongoing war with Iran as it may escalate the conflict. The powers of Europe in their right-mind have taken a rigorous stance on American request. The US government must bid its time and allow natural course of politics to take its own way. Most politics is managed well when it is given the ample time to function. Forcing allies or applying incessant pressure on them is not the best course of action under the given political circumstances. The US government would be well-advised to use diplomacy as well as it must to reopen the salient strait. The shipping industry shouldn’t be hit hard and more work needs to be done on the diplomatic front. The lifeline of commerce relies on sea-routes, and these routes must be made safe for the passing ships. Iran must be asked to make it a safe way lest US intervenes in the ongoing conflict that seems to have become intractable with every passing day.
The rejection of request might tamper US’ relationship with its NATO allies. Not adhering to American request is not a cause that ought to be considered opportune for the old allies. The command that the US government holds must be taken advantage of and commerce should be protected at all costs. Commerce is the backbone of economies and should be given a safe haven by the warring parties. Iran and the United States have been at loggerheads lately, they have started a war that seems to have no foreseeable end. The future cannot be jeopardized and effects of war should be made minimal on commerce, if not negligible. The United States might be under pressure to use its own military if needed to clear the waterways of the incontrovertible strait. The relentless debate between the old allies is one thing, and not allowing commerce to function quite another. Iran should be taken in confidence and strait should be given a green passage that it desperately requires. The oil markets have been going down, and costs are rising. The oil price has been rising faster than the usual pace. The United States must use its diplomacy to resolve the stalemate that it has been facing thus far. Having a friendly government in the region is a better prospect for commerce, rather than a state that it is bent on destruction. The United States should use diplomatic channels to do the requisite and allow politics to function as it must in the twenty-first century. The warring parties are to be blamed. Being politically blameless should have been better than being commercially irresponsible.
