For Political Stability

The US President Donald Trump has returned to the American shores after much fanfare at the two-day summit with China. The summit has been characterized as stable. With all cheerleading of China, the US remains in dominant position. Its economy is quite large when compared to that of China and its quest to quell belligerence also exceeds that of China. China has been irresponsible enough and should behave more like a responsible global power. It misbehaviour towards Taiwan is for all to come to terms with. China must understand that Asia is important, and peace and commerce must be given due diligence in Asia. Asia cannot be made a laboratory of wars in the twenty-first century. For all its gain in economy, China’s foreign policy is marred with political immaturity. It is unable to maintain friendship with countries that it ought to be friendly with. China is not a democracy and has a totalitarian political system which does not give it much leeway to manoeuvre politically. It loses its precious sight on Asia, and does not garner much support from democratic countries. China should become more responsible in the twenty-first century and establish peace in the region. It cannot behave ham-handedly with Taiwan and become glorious at the same time. China’s territorial ambitions must be made to rest and it must learn to respect sovereignty of other countries in the region.

The two day summit was a win for the United States as it forewarned China of repercussions if Taiwan is unduly threatened, and consensus was formed on Iran that it should not get access to nuclear weapons. China’s communist party must take challenge of inequality within as seriously as it wishes to take its foreign policies. It must live in peace with other countries and give them more opportunities to grow economically. Excessive belligerence from China is a cause for concern and international community must take cognizance of this salient factor. China should side with commerce and not allow political brinkmanship to play spoilsport in the region. The communists everywhere seem to loathe democracy and the freedom that comes associated with it. China is quite similar in its political attitude. China must absolve Taiwan of wrongdoings, if any, and allow it to function as a highly productive society. China must acknowledge the significance of Asia and not put Asia under ransom by military threats. It must understand the Asia as a continent is important for countries based in Asia, and ones who do commerce with Asia. The twenty-first century cannot be China’s century, it ought to be Asia’s century.
