A Coercive Measure
The US government had decided to expand sanctions against Cuba due to its alleged ties with Hezbollah and Iran. The sanctions would hit hard on its finance and energy sectors. The Trump administration has decided in its independent mind to go after its neighbour, and not give in to the tirades that Iran wants in the wider world. Cuba has called the measures coercive and has decided not to be intimidated with the latest round of sanctions by the US government. The socialist regime has given its statement and rightfully termed the measures as coercive. Having ties with Hezbollah is one thing, and with Iran quite another. The latter is a sovereign Islamic republic with its ties to most countries in the world. The US government has decided to be cautious with countries which have ties to Hezbollah and Iran. The Cuban government must cut its ties to Hezbollah as it is a terrorist group, and has nothing to do with respectable states. Giving in to obnoxious nature of terrorism is not the best option that it has exercised so far. Cuba must cut ties to Hezbollah, and not irk international pressure that a democratic nation has exercised. Democracies have higher legitimacy and their concerns must be addressed by socialist regimes, including Cuba.
The Cuban government must be circumspect enough not to allow its support to terror groups that kill and maim innocent men and women. Cuba has been quite responsible and is generally liked internationally, it must pay heed to the sartorial advice that the US government has placed on its doorstep. It must flail its ties with Hezbollah with immediacy of intent, and not allow its precious support to go to terror groups. Terror groups should be ignored by respectable states. Cuba must focus on its economy. Economic infrastructure should be given an important place in its scheme of things. It must use its time wisely in building a nation and making it progressive, rather than in bidding its much-earned reputation with terror groups. Terror groups are not responsible and are highly dangerous. They challenge duly-elected governments around the democratic world and try to rub shoulders with communist and socialist regimes. Socialism for all its entanglements with capitalism should not support terrorism, or terror groups. Giving Hezbollah legitimacy through socialist ties is a weak option that it has exercised. Cuba must choose strong options to build its country. The United States has taken a right step in warning Cuba for its ties with Hezbollah, although it has been erroneous to charge it on its ties with Iran.
